American Academy of Arts and Letters
Founded in 1898 and located in landmark buildings in Manhattan’s Washington Heights, The American Academy of Arts and Letters is an honor society of artists, architects, composers, and writers who foster and sustain public interest in the arts. Its members include Hilton Als, Laurie Anderson, Robert Caro, Joy Harjo, Tania León, Cindy Sherman, Amy Tan, Billie Tsien, Kara Walker, and Pamela Z, among many others. In September 2024, Arts and Letters opened all 10,000 square feet of its galleries to the public year-round—a major milestone and a first in the institution’s rich 125-year history.
Cultural Counsel was engaged to expand and elevate the institution’s existing media footprint in advance of that opening, and to maximize press surrounding the solo exhibitions, site-specific commissions, and interdisciplinary events that followed. Cultural Counsel has garnered thoughtful and comprehensive coverage in a wide range of outlets, including multiple stories in The New York Times.
